Resources for Webelos Activity Badges
Aquanaut
· Highlands Pool lifeguards will give a demonstration of swimming, life saving and water rescue. Each scout spends time in the water practicing rescue techniques and using different types of floatation devices. Maybe the Community Center also would be willing to do this.
Artist
· Westerville Parks and Recreation Department used to offer a 3-hour session with Westerville Artist Ginny Baughman. Call the department to inquire if this program is still available.
· Columbus College of Art and Design students will give a program.
· Columbus Art Museum is willing to offer a class for scouts.
Citizen
· Have the boys raise and lower the flag at school. Make arrangements in the front office.
Craftsman
· Home Depot has a woodworking class. Also, the first Saturday of every month it offers a kids’ workshop. Kids build from kits. Make arrangements in advance with the store. Parental help is required.
· Contact local high schools that might be willing to let you build and work with tools in their woodworking shops.
Communicator
· Otterbein College is happy to accommodate kids:

· Suburban News Publications (Westerville News and Public Opinion), 785-1212, gives tours. Joe Meyer, Managing Editor, is a Scouter from Westerville.

Geologist
· OSU Geological Museum at Orton Hall. The curator of the museum will take your group into a classroom and show different minerals, rocks, fossils, relics, dinosaurs, etc. The curator’s name is Dale Gnidovec (ga-need-o-vic). His number is 292-6896.
· Highbanks MetroPark can give a program. Let the naturalist know the topics you need covered.
· Otterbein College has a geology department that may be willing to help.

· Saturn Car Co., High Street, can teach how to change a tire.
Forester
· Columbus Zoo has a program available.

· American Red Cross offers a first aid class specifically for Cub Scouts. Call them at 253-2740 to see when the presentation will be offered at the Eastwind facility here in Westerville.
Scholar
· Arrange to have your den eat lunch with Mrs. O’Flynn or their teacher or plan to meet after school for a discussion of the topics to be covered.
Showman
· Drama department of high schools or Otterbein College can help.
· Write a play and make puppets. Perform at a Pack meeting
Sportsman
· B.A.S.S./Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. Ask about “casting kids.”
· Humane Society gives tours.
· Ohio Wildlife has programs for kids.
· Play at a disc golf course at Hoover Reservoir or Blendon Woods.
Traveler
· AAA will give maps, bus schedule, etc.
